Nepali Cinema Market Hits All-Time High 2.7 Billion Rupees in 2081 – A Milestone Feat!

10 April, KATHMANDU — The Nepali film industry has just set a historic milestone in 2081, with the industry size breaking the record to 2.7 billion rupees! According to the box office report of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, this year has been a record year for Nepali cinema, with box office revenues breaking all-time records.

In total, Nepali and international films have collectively earned 2.7 billion rupees this year. Of that, 59 Nepali films alone have raked in a remarkable 1.8 billion rupees. Meanwhile, 83 foreign films released this year have contributed 895.8 million rupees. When you add up the earnings from both Nepali and foreign films, the combined total for 2081 stands at an astounding 2.7 billion rupees—an unprecedented surge for the Nepali film industry!

This year also saw a massive 5.7 million tickets sold for Nepali films, while foreign films sold 2.69 million tickets. Together, a total of 8.46 million tickets were sold across all films. Two major contributors to this box office success? ‘Purnabahadur Ko Sarangi’ and the South Indian blockbuster ‘Pushpa 2’—both of which played a key role in driving Nepal’s box office numbers to new heights. What a year for Nepali cinema!
