‘Women participation increasing in party’

Kathmandu, Dec 10 (RSS): Two women ministers in the current government have observed that women participation in the party and government was increasing gradually. Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, and Poverty Alleviation, Sashi Shrestha, and Minister for Urban Development, Ram Kumari Jhankri, made such observation at a programme organized by Women Safety Pressure Group in the federal capital on Thursday. They however said a lot more should be done for full realization of inclusive participation in State mechanism.

Minister Shrestha shared information that the internal struggle in CPN (Maoist Centre) had ensured 37 percent participation of women in the central committee. It was mandated by the party statute, she added. Voices were raised to increase women participation in the office bearers’ position too. She stressed, ‘To get rights, all of us should continue struggle within the party.”

According to her, a new trend had emerged in her party –the Maoist Centre- that women leadership was being recognized in the government and parliamentary committees as compared to the past. She gave credit to various political movements behind women empowerment.
