16 January, KATHMANDU: A first-of-its-kind canopy zipline has commenced operations at Manjushree Park in Chobhar, Kathmandu. This exhilarating experience spans three stages and covers approximately 400 meters. The zipline, which takes around 10 minutes to complete,has three stages named ‘Adventure,’ ‘Dare Devils,’ and ‘The Fun’ based on the feeling that they provide.
During the canopy zipline journey, participants are treated to breathtaking views of the Chobhar gorge, Manjushree’s cut, Jalbinayak temple, Chobhar monastery, the newly-constructed dry port, Champadevi, Chandragiri hills, and the cities of Kathmandu and Lalitpur. The take-off tower offers a stunning view of a beautiful snow-capped mountain range as well.
The zipline operates daily from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., accommodating 300 to 350 participants daily. The fee includes a 3-stage zipline package at 1500 rupees per person, including photo-video services. Tandem (pair) ziplines are available for 2 thousand rupees. Special discounts of 10% for students with ID and 25% for residents of Ward No. 6 of Kirtipur Municipality are available.
Pradeep Chaulagain, Chairman of JB Adventure Pvt. Ltd., informed us of exciting developments that are on the horizon as the company plans to transform Chobhar into a comprehensive adventure hub. A partnership with an Australian company is set to bring the first glass bridge to South Asia, scheduled to open in 2025. This glass bridge will serve as a platform for activities like skywalking, bungee jumping, and more. Safety remains a top priority, with an Australian bungee expert overseeing the security assessment and redesign of the canopy zipline.
The canopy zipline project has seen a substantial investment of Rs. 40 million, contributing to the total project budget of Rs. 3 billion. The comprehensive plans for the adventure hub, including a bridge with bungee swimming and rock climbing, are expected to be completed within a year, with the full project, including a hotel, being completed in 5 years.
