Moderate to heavy – and very heavy – rainfall predicted for Bada-Dashain

05 October, KATHMANDU : With the monsoon still active over Nepal, expect a wet Dashain. Nepal’s Meteorological Forecasting Division says rainfall will likely continue through the main Dashain days, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as well.

On Tuesday, Kathmandu and Pokhara recorded nearly 40 millimetres of rainfall. In the next 24 hours, Gandaki province too will see rainfall with water levels in major river systems expected to go up.

The Division has predicted thunder storms and heavy rainfall in Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and a few places of Madhesh region. The wet weather conditions remain because the “axis of the monsoon trough” is positioned slightly north of its usual position.

In its regular update, the Division has warned that wet weather conditions could disrupt overland and air transportations in central and western Nepal in the next 24 hours beginning Tuesday.

On Wednesday – the Bada-Dashain day, the Division says, cloudy conditions will prevail in Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini regions, with chances of heavy rainfall in Province 1 and Bagmati.

On Thursday, light to moderate and even heavy rainfall are predicted in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces. On Thursday night, very heavy rainfall is expected to lash one or two places in Karnali and Sudurpaschim.

The effects could last until Friday and into the weekend.
